later sowings often work better than early - summer heat (even the excuse for summer last year) will encourage it to bolt. Mine got to 5ft high, and flowered rampantly. The bees loved it, and I fully expect to pull up a lot of self-seeded fennel this year.

If it bolts the skinny stems, leaves and flowers are still tasty, but it doesn't look like it should. (personally I found a little goes a loooooong way, and I had about 12 of them!)

Last year I grew:

Potatoes - 1st early, 2nd early & main
Carrots - but not many!
Spring Onions - again not many!
Peas
Runner beans - too many!
Courgette - waaaaay too many!
Calabrese - not enough but it takes up quite a bit of space but I was very excited when I saw I had a head produced as I'd almost given up on it
Tomatoes
Pepper - limited success (no greenhouse)
Chillies - but from expensive bought plants!
Raddishes - nice and quick
Various salad leaves
Winter garlic - but of a failure, trying again this year
Kale - overwintering, not sure if it's doing well of not???
Strawberries - in pots, dissapointed with the yield - will be perservering this year!

This year I am going to do much the same as last year but adding:
Onions - red, white and sharlotts
Altering quantities to try and meet demand a little better (i.e. I am not groing 4 courgette plants! )

The runner beans freeze very well willow warren highly recommended,i know what you mean about quantities ive seen me sow two full rows of lettuce before and all be ready at the same time, now i usually grow my salad stuff in tubs little and often.
For a radish that will"hold" a bit longer i use lidl radish seed, its a german variety and carrot shaped, they get quite big and are lovely sliced in a sarnie or in a salad, not too hot but nice and crispy.

I suppose we all grow weeds - it's just knowing that some of them are edible. I remember being banned from pulling up Good King Henry when doing community gardening and it becoming part of an excellent Indian meal at lunch. "The Aunties" as they were known had always used it for cooking - amazing how some weeds cross country boundaries.

Broad Beans - Aiming to put at least 5kg away for winter (as well as eating most days while fresh). 150 plants I think.
French Beans - Aim again to put around 3-5kg away for winter. Less plants required than Broad Beans, have around 100 seeds.
Onions - Exact number to be planted TBC but have 300 sets (cheaper to buy a set of 100 of 3 varieties) on order. Probably plant something like 50-75 of each variety. Share the rest with lotty folk.
Winter Squash - As many as I can fit on the plot. In an ideal world would like 100+ for winter keeping. That would mean 50+ plants, we shall see how space goes. Growing short-vine or bush varieties. Will probably limit fruit to 2 per vine to maximise ripened fruit.
Butternut - A few, probably 10 plants.
Beetroot - Mainly for fresh eating, so small sowings regularly.
Strawberrys - Putting 100 Cambridge Favourite in this year.
Garlic - Bit of a trial this year, trying a few different varieties, around 150 cloves planted and up.
Asparagus - 1 bed in place last year, second bed ready for planting when arrives this spring.
Artichokes (Globe) - 10 Plants just ordered.
Sweetcorn - thought I might have a go for fun :) Probably a couple of rows.
Sunflowers - For seed consumption. Again, for fun. Have 3 or 4 heritage varieties from America which are proper 'seed' varieties.
Tomatoes - Ah, who can beat a fresh tomato, if blight doesnt get them all. Bush varieties only. Wherever I can fit them, all in pots i *think*.
Swiss Chard - 1 small Bed should be enough, 2 beds was wayyy to much last year.
Kale - 1 small bed.
Breadseed Poppies - 2 varieties to try, just pop them in the gaps.
Parnsips - Normal and turnip rooted.
Rosemary - Rabbits destroyed my beautiful rosemary, new plant needed.

Herbs / Salads (Inc. lettuce etc.) - If there is any space left after the above I'll squeeze a few bits and bobs in.

I have a full plot (approx 350msq), but if the opportunity comes up to take on an additional half, depending on space I may well take it.

Just a small polytunnel to put up, fencing to finish and guttering to put up now before the season kicks off in earnest :)
