Is there a law against collecting seaweed,could i mix this with my composting if so how much should i put in.I presume it would have to be washed to remove the salt...would the benifits be wothwhile.I am asking this as i have seen seaweed extract used in plant food feed

There are regulations and you can't take it from just any sea shore.

A search on these forums will find you LOADS of information.

If you put seaweed into the search there is at least one thread on it maybe more.

You do need permision from the local council to collect it tho and if the beach is private then off the land owner.

You cannot take sea weed from crown estates and need to have the owner of the foreshore's permission to gather it.

Yes it is good mixed into compost or used as a feeding mulch. I rinse mine once or leave it out in a heap on some waste ground when it's going to rain

But be careful of the seaweed police
