Annual pruning battle with the roses
« on: February 04, 2013, 13:36 »
has begun!
I've started with the roses on the house wall and the garden arch........... I think the roses won, cos my hands are shredded  ::)
I've snuck back indoors for a hot drink before starting round 2 - collecting up the prunings

The bushes can wait til after the coming cold snap.........................

I started mine yesterday and also came off worst - somehow one of them managed to slap me in the face, I think the dog trying to help me may have been the cause :(

I have two bush roses that I need to move (only 2 years in) when would be best to move them.

That sounds painful!
Move them as soon as possible - cos they've already started sprouting here

I pruned mine last Thursday ,as they were sprouting new growth also.

They must be about 20  years old and when I took on the plot (3years  ago ) they were

nearly 8ft tall and growing haywire.

I cut them down as far as I could ( the bases were 6-9 inches across ),so far they seem to

have flowered well. I don't know what type they are but they look very nice

I managed mine in the new year during a fine spell.

Took days to get all the thorns out of my arms, where I got lashed by branches

So I knw how you feel, MoS  ;)

Yes - they should have already been pruned down quite short when you bought them, so leave them alone this year  :)
