True Madcat, although in this instance I'm sure everyone is making their "best guess" because I don't think there can be many gardeners or farmers who are in the habit of chitting their spuds for a whole year!!
Only one way to find out (but only if Upthetump has got the space to experiment.)   ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I note the automated nature of the text in my original post, iPads are great but the predictive thing is a pain, anyway they are still chatting away nicely in the unheard room!!!!

Agree with JayG - it would be worth putting a couple in a tub and seeing what happens.

Starting chitting my tatties today - Belle de Fontanay, Pink Fir Apple and Vales Sovereign

I've got mine chitting near on a windowsill in an unheated room but can dip to 8 or 9 degrees at night. Should I move them to a warmer room, but they won't be near a window albeit they will get a good amount of light?
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

ok, i'm thinking of planting 2 or 3 indoors now to see what happens. i'm going to Spain end April for 3 weeks but am loaning plastic greenhouse to son in law so he can look after my runners etc. the tubers look withered, but the sprouts are really thick and theres a grassy like growth on them. my main worry is disease from them entering the ground. but, worth a go methinks. i have space to grow them as long as chooks dont get at them. might be an interesting experiment. oh and now OH knows ive posted this, the pressure is on to move them, Hyacinth Bucket moment

I am very new to this. I grew some Roosters last year in tyres and to be honest did far better than I ever thought. This year I thought I would be better prepared because I started late last year. I put them to chit last week in the windowsill in a cool bedroom. A couple of questions please. Have I got the timing right? I am in W Yorkshire. Also am I chatting them in he best place. I have a tiny plastic, cheap 'greenhouse' would they be better in there? Thank you, all advice is welcome. Sorry if I hijacked a thread.
