A ray of sunshine!
« on: January 28, 2013, 15:46 »
For a couple of nice days I've been manic in the garden harvesting leeks, Jerusalem artichokes and parsnips, sorting strawberries, manuring and digging over. It was great to feel the sun  8) and actually DO something!
My leeks were more like spring onions but tasty and the J.as were very plentiful and swollen to a big size. (Wonder why?......could it have something to do with RAIN!)
What did surprise me was the size and number of parsnips which I'm going to have to freeze. I posted here back in June (?) that I'd lost them all to slugs. In fact they came up REALLY late (sown March) and have done really well. They are incredibly sweet after the snow.
So not all gloom and doom from last year....... :D

We're lucky with t'weather down here in Hants. Saturday and Sunday we had long periods of sunshine, blue skies and balmy temps.
You could be forgiven for thinking Spring is on it's way and the plants and birds think so too!
Unfortunately we're bound to get more cold snaps. I believe Feb 13th is statistically always cold.
Brrrr.....

It don't think it will be able to dry if you cover it with tarps now, it needs to be open the wind and hopefully some sun.
(Tarps are often used as mulch to keep the moisture in during summer)

that there isn't much to do but tidy up .

good day in the garden today - warm enough for sweat to run in my eyes, my usual robin soon jumped onto the handle of my spade as he always does if I set it aside and then he left his calling card so that needed wiping off and when I went for my cup of coffee that was cooling on the bench it had a fly in it drowning slowly - looks as we are back to normal...............

If you mean back to normal, as in grey and pouring hard all day  - I'll agree  ::)

I'm seriously thinking about getting a polytunnel set up if this is what the weather's going to be like all summer, cos of the jetstream  ::)

sorry you have had  a grey wet day - we did have rain and that drove me into the polytunnel where I am progressively double digging all the beds but I did get back out later to catch up on some overdue fruit bush pruning
