Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

This very recent thread may help:

If you're not bothered about taste - then you may as well stick with the Rocket  ;)

The blurb for Swift suggests they can be lifted at about 8 weeks which is about 3-4 weeks earlier than most ... but then if we have another cold late spring/early summer like last year, then it doesn't really make any difference as all potato plants will just slow down in lower temperatures.  I didn't lift my Swift until nearly 14 weeks  ::) so that put paid to that selling point

Why?  Is space a problem?   I wouldn't bother growing anything where taste came second - I want to enjoy eating my veggies  :nowink:

Maybe I should explain.
I grow new potatoes in bags and in a large greenhouse for a very early crop.
I am prepared to sacrifice a bit of flavour for a few weeks extra new spuds (if indeed you gain that).
I then do the same at the end of the year.
I'm now thinking that maybe there isn't that much difference in the speed of growth between the various first earlies.

PS I then grow Lady Chrystl outside in the big wide world.

Ah, now I get it (I think!).  There are some folks here who have had success growing really early and late potatoes indoors - I've tried late tatties for the winter festival twice .... then gave up  :).  Makes better sense for me to grow and store to be honest.
