Good 1st Early
« on: January 23, 2013, 20:47 »
Went  off to my local garden centre today and bought some seed potatoes.
Unfortunately they did not have any lady crystl.
I see on the web they are in short supply (and I have no intention of ordering from T&M!) so can anyone suggest an alternative. Have tried rocket and swift but they did not taste as good. I am looking for taste rather than quantity.
Thanks

Elaine

Pentland Javelin & Casablanca.

Now standby for 40 other suggestions!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks DD for your prompt reply.
I do appreciate that this might cause some disagreement!
I will go back on friday to see if they have either of those.

Found an eBay shop selling Lady Christl with very reasonable postage compared to the rest of the web. They haven't arrived yet so loathe to recommend just yet! Seller agreed to hold them till it gets milder :-)

Whilst I'd always have one of the loudest voices advocating Lady Christl (shame you can't get them), we grew Sharpe's Express alongside them a couple of years back. They cropped well, but I wasn't keen on the flavour compared to the Christls. You might like them though, as many do. :)

Arran Pilot is delicious and they barely make it from the pan to the plate in our house  :D

It is also excellent if allowed to grow big and then eaten as jackets
