clear plant pots
« on: January 21, 2013, 21:16 »
Been a tight person, I like to save money wherever possible. I can get lots of free clear plastic cups to use as plant pots for seedlings, cuttings and suchlike. Is it dertrimental to the roots due to the pots being clear and letting light through? I'm particularly thinking about tomato seedlings.

Ditto.  I use the clear plastic tubs (can't remember what came in them) that are nice and deep for leeks and have no problems.

Works very well for me too. I use the clear extra deep plastic cups for corn, rather than toilet roll tubes.
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

Ditto, ditto and thrice ditto.
Have been growing beans (French and runner), peas and corn in clear plastic cups since I started on the lottie three years ago. Did leeks last year and they turned out great.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

You can also use paper pots to start seeds off, which is what some of us on here use.

Very quick, cheap or even free, and easy to make

I've started my leek seeds growing in them now.

I used the soldering iron to burn a couple of holes in the bottom of the plastic cups I picked up from the £1 shop - you can do 1/2 doz at a time  :D
