I was just about to post on this topic and found this thread (thought to search this time!). My charge has not gone up for the third year running and is £36 for a 110' x 30' plot. This includes water. I think this is very reasonable and there are concessions.

However, I was talking to some friends yesterday who have plots in close by villages, one of them was paying £2 per year, plus £4 towards the water, they have increased this to £28 now, still reasonable, but a massive jump! The other was paying £10 a year which has now increased to £20.

With cut backs in so many other areas, I can only see rents going up over the years, especially as allotments can hold so much value in terms of development potential.
Acquired a third of a plot in January 2011 which was extended to three quarters in December 2011. Managed by myself and my 6 year old son.

There are some massive leaps in rents!  I am astounded.

I've only ever paid around £20-£26 a year - £26.50-something I think for 2012/13, and that includes the water rates.
It does sound suspiciously like some of the councils are trying to price people out of the market to get land freed up. Definitely something to look into. Speak to your MP's if your councils won't help, it'll put them in the picture if councils are trying to sell the land off.

Feel really bad for those with huge rents - so much for 'leisure gardening'!!!  ::)

They may be massive jumps percentage wise, but have only raised the price to low levels compared to rents in other parts of the country. Tis only 54p a week, you can't do much else for that  :)

I wonder if it's sites like these, and us owning up to what we all pay, that allows some canny council official to realize they are charging too little.

Oopsie, mine's privately owned and I pay £5.00 a week, it'd be cheaper to buy my veggies from M & S .... but where's the fun in that!   :D

£9 for a half plot, with water, the chairman cuts the grass and a communal shed.  the rent is rising to £10 for half plot and £20 for full plot.

My plot is 55' x 24' and costs me £10 a year (payable in October). This does not include water supply which is £2 a year, and they will not be charging for water this year because of the drought last year (bonus!). We have a modest toilet facility, a small shop, and a small cafe for members of the association (which costs £6 a year).

That'll do me 'Arry!

£10 per year / half plot. Nothing provided. When I took on my second half, rent waived for 2 years due to the state of the plot.
