8 unexpected chicks photos (hopefully)
« on: January 17, 2013, 14:09 »
For those that have been following me, here are some photos of mum and her babies; I am sure you appreciate its a little difficult to catch them all as she is very protective and puffs up!

The "box" we made normally has a lid on!

Going to keep them inside for another week or so (if I can) as we still have a lot of snow on the ground and weather warnings for next week too!

In photobucket just click on the img tag, (I think it's the bottom option) which copies it, and then paste it in your reply :)

Me too, especially as Bluebell my bantam x   has just gone broody AGAIN  She only started laying again end of Dec.
Having kept a log I've worked out she lays 17/18 eggs, goes broody & stops laying for 10 - 14 days before statring all over. Regular as clockwork ::)
seeing those beautiful chicks makes me want to hatch some more, she was a good Mum 2yrs ago so perhaps I can find someone who needs the job done.
Good Luck with your babies, hope there's plenty of girls :)

Lovely Mum and chicks, they grow so quickly so enjoy the fluffy stage.

My little bantam Dotty has gone broody again so I have sat her on some (possibly) fertile eggs.  I suppose I will find out in 3 weeks.   :D

She has an Eglu classic rabbit to herself and that is in a roofed walk in run.  She loves to sit so I will just keep an eye on her to make sure she eats and drinks enough.  I have some breeding food which I can give her to keep her buit up.  If any hatch and the weather is still bad I will bring them all indoors into an unheated room.  They could also go into the turkey shed as it should be vacant by then.

All my hens love to peck at plastic pots, bins, water butts!   ::)

That Dotty certainly seems a broody girl, but a great mother too!

Just going to take her some breeding food which has boiled water in it so it should warm her up.   :)

Pauline M - my hen and cock are a mixed race and not identifiable!!!! so I am assuming they will look like mum and dad, they have breed before (look for post what breed am i _ eventually uploaded pics) should be nearish the top!

ANHBUc _ sounds like you really no what you are doing!

its warmer here today and the snow has all gone, so Im hopefully going to put them out for a run/scratch _ just hoping I can get them back in!

Dotty really enjoyed her egg food yesterday and is in full broody mode, I can tell by her broody poos.

Today she was having trouble covering all the eggs so I have taken away three cool ones.
