Onions and the rest!!
« on: January 12, 2013, 15:14 »

Due to the obviously wet weather I was unable to plant out sets of onions, shallots and garlic during December, is it now to late to plant out sets to harvest around the same time?

ok for garlic and shallots, as long as the ground isn't actually frozen.

Onions, if they're overwintering onions then yes, get them in - if they are ordinary sets then it's still too early  ;)

I defy conventional wisdom and plant out garlic and shallots in March with the onion sets and get great crops

I think Alan that much depends on where you are. If I left it that late to plant garlic I doubt I'd get enough frost on them to bulb them up well enough before a June-July harvest.
