happy with oca

I bit my lip buying oca at about £9.00 for 6 tubers last year but I've just dug them today and there must be between 60 and 80 at this rate i'll have about 700 next year.

:D  - I was also pleased with the return off my initial investment, and they are a nice alternate to potatoes

I got a mixed bag, no where near as good as 2011.
Main issue we had as with most places was excess surface water, to be honest I was amazed I got any at all.
Lets hope for better this year.

Here is the realseeds link:

http://www.realseeds.co.uk/oca_instructions.html

I understand they don't need to be indoors and quite like the cold. Also the spread is quite enormous so they take up too much room indoors as at least one forum grower found this year. Our first year and I'm going to have a look at them over the weekend coming. :)

I grew some in pots last year and they were fine, just remember to water them regularly

I would say the bigger the pot the better mine were around 50cm, you could probably get away with 40 but I wouldn't go much smaller

Please may I ask, how would you describe the taste?

Think I've done a write up in more detail in another thread but essentially found them quite bland and starchy when cooked but lighter and quite refreshing when used raw

Thank you both. Can't make the link work I am afraid. If they are bland and starchy does that make them quite like a potato? I will see if I can find your other thread. :)

I found them more starchy than any potato I've had and I roasted them in a similar way. Perhaps I cooked them for too long

I think a few more people give their opinion of the taste in the other thread too
