The only risk about using home-grown compost for seed sowing, is that it is not sterilised - so runs the additional risk (over bought version) of diseases.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

You can sterilise it yourself using, for example, a microwave or over a steamer.

Easier to use bought IMO!

It's great stuff to add it to the plot, but not such a good idea to use it for seed sowing - unless you can sterilise it, as already said.

You shouldn't have a problem on your plot except from weed seeds that are in it - but weed seeds are everywhere so don't worry about that!

For seeds you will increase the risk of damping off using unsteralised compost as well as the weed seeds growing.

I often use home made compost to half fill larger pots then top up with potting compost. Eg the final pot for a tomato.
