Something is eating my sweet potato leaves in the GH!  I am guessing slugs, but can't see any sign of slime anywhere.  Any other ideas what this could be?  Thanks

Yes, the leaves are edible, if a bit bland, nothing that some spices won't sort out. Here are some ideas: LINK

Angela, a lot of bugs love sweet potato leaves so it will be a matter of watching the plants for a while to see what shows up. Could be Japanese beetles (if the UK has this mega pest), aphids, leafminers, silverleaf whitefly, cucumber beetles, and flea beetles are the most common pests. Once you know what your freeloader is, you can get natural treatments for it.

Mine are doing nothing. They just sit in soil and sulk. Havent put on a single leaf since I planted them.

Have a gentle furtle and see if they're putting out any roots. They may also need watering and more sun to kick them into gear.

Mine have grown two stems on each plant, sticking out sideways, about 30 - 40 cm in length. Plenty od water, and plenty of warmth, planted with plenty of well rotted manure

Anything else I should do to keep them happy?

The ones in the ground are growing slowly, but the one in the greenhouse is climbing up the wall. About 3 foot long.

No. They just need time now, warmth and all the sun they can get.

Plenty of warm sunshine right now  ;) Thank you for the advice, Trillium  :D

Gave them a good soak and firmed down the vole tunnels around them ARRRGGGHHHH!!! The devils have travelled to the min tunnel now  :(

I shall keep smiling at the sweet potatoes to cheer them on their way though  :)

Urgh. Sorry you're having trouble with voles, Sunny. Hope the traps or whatever work.

Am unsure how to tackle them tbh. Live traps are fine but I can only use them when I am at the plot. Wondering if I can face snappers  baited with raspberries (which they love for the seeds)

They have also eaten through the stems of my luscious sweetcorn plants so will have to do something

I tried to grow my own slips and eventually planted out bought ones. Then, lo and behold, I opened a pack of sweet potatoes from the supermarket and there's one with two teeny tiny but perfectly formed slips! I'm guessing its too late in the season to try to grow and plant out?

Yes, it's too late this year. But, you can suspend the sweet potato haflway into a cup/jar/container of water until next year, by which time it will have put out many slips for you.

Yes, you'll be a bit ahead of the game, but better too soon than too late  :D
