I've still got slips coming up on my potato, is it too late now to plant them up and still get a good harvest? ( not that I have any where warm for any more to go....)

How far apart do you plant them?

About every 30cm / 6" should be fine. We used to pack them in double rows on 1m raised beds, the beds would literally be bulging with potatoes by the end, some upto 12" long.

Do you mean 30cm/12" or 15cm/6"?

The leaves on mine are going browny purple and look like they are going to die??
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Are they in a cool or drafty area? They are very sensitive to cold of any sort.

No in a cloche with black sheeting underneath them.

I'd give them a weak fertilizer watering, put the cloche back on and see what happens. Such strange weather this year makes things difficult to figure out.

My 5 slips have been out about 3 weeks and don't seem to have done much growing. They're under cloche, had some fertilzer, regular water, is there anything else I can do? I'm growing them for the leaves mainly (trillium/rowan they are yummy!)...

They can be real slowpokes until their roots set. the roots are actually the tubers but in pencil-skinny form right now. Once those are set, it should explode with growth.

We need some consistent warmth for them to really get going.

True. It's been cool and warm here on alternate days, up and down like a loo seat.  ;)

They need to have a lot of leaves on top (unless you're eating them) and they've had about 4 months in the soil. At that time, do a little furtle to see if the roots have thickened up to nice sized tubers. If they're still pencil thickness, they need more time so just cover your little hole back up and wait another few weeks. If it begins to get cool at that time, cover with any sort of cloche to keep them warm which is what they need to fill out the tubers.
