Just a quick flying visit today, collected some rhubarb and watered the seedlings and checked on the slugs......noticed that my weeding at the weekend meant nothing to the damn weeds and they seam to have doubled!

Good luck Grendel!

I had even more strawberries.

I love June :)
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Did a load of weeding, cut the bottoms off 4 water bottles and cloched my butternuts and a couple of toms, put some canes and string around my broad beans to help keep them upright and planted out 24 celery plants.

All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Runner beans are out and on their own. One tray of squash have also gone out and finally one of my cold frames is empty ( for now)

Got two more blue tubs for carrots which will go in today fingers crossed. My garden looks like a chemical storage plant.

Tempted to tip out a bucket of spuds but i cant remember which is which although the foliage is 3 foot on each tub i am not confident of a good crop of spuds.  ???

probably Friday week, and my field of expertise - CAD (technical drawing on computer)
anyway back on topic, early morning trip here, cleared a rows worth and planted 3 rows of seed, cabbage, cauli and broccoli, just to fill the odd empty bits of plot, now nicely watered (drowned) in by the torrential rain that has just arrived.

Yesterday (as always):

  • planted more cabbage and broccoli
  • set up blue-plastic pipe and debris netting
  • sowed beetroot
  • picked strawberries, weeded and watered them
  • hoed with the swoe
  • more watering

followed by a very late and frantic rush back for a bite to eat and bed-time over the road.

Purposely off topic:

Grendel please let us know (somewhere or other) about the job interview. CAD! Clever chap!!

A quick hoe on the areas of the plot I haven't dug yet. Still two thirds of the plot to turn.

On a brighter note, the potatoes are starting to poke some shoots up - the first signs of crops actually growing in what was a hayfield just 3 weeks ago.
Breaking new ground.............literally!
