Too cold for me too and seeing as I already have the sniffles, I decided just to cover part of the dug plot with black plastic and call it a day.  I went shopping instead  ;)

I bought 28 black bags of horse muck for £1 bag (well rotted and pure) off ebay and have spread it over where I plan to have my squash area. I put some old black weed suppressant over a weedy area aswell in the hope that it kills them off a bit.
Back at home I put together a nice wooden 3 tiered cold frame cabinet that I bought last week for £85 and then potted up some chilli peppers, tomatoes, aubergines & okra (kept these indoors) and potted up some broad beans and a couple of gem lettuces to try out my new purchase!

Newby  to growing my own vegetables , just taken over a small allotment plot, bought some Parsnip seeds, and Red Baron Onions, Firestorm Runner beans and Purple Dragon Carrots.
Tidied up the plot, lots of vegetables left in the ground, lots of 5 in 1 carrots and some other vegetables that looked a bit like triffids.

Three trips up and down the muddy path getting barrowfuls of wood chippings, would have done more but somebody parked their car so I couldn't get the barrow past.  That's half a dumpy bag full for future use.

I measured my new plot yesterday afternoon and had a good nosey at what everyone else was upto and what works and what looks like a right mess.

Picked up a dozen bags of FREE pretty fresh horse muck, threw 2 in to the darlek at home and am checking it's ok with a little in some pea pots in the kitchen. some of the bags are poo and nice wood chips so I'll desperate the 2 out and use the chips for mulching certain plants.

Today I've done a little sowing onions and leeks. rearranged the garden and created a make shift cold frame just to keep the worse of the rain off. repotted some of the garlic I put in modules back in December hoping to get them down the plot asap.

First visit for nearly four weeks.
Dug up some parsnips leeks a few turnips and the last of my Beetroot
The Beetroot I was not sure about but it is ok .
The plot is still very wet but I did get a bit of digging done .
I also transplanted a gooseberry plant I layered last year cut it from the mother plant and did a bit of pruning to tidy it up fingers crossed I now will have two bushes for the price of one.

Once I had plucked up courage to leave my cosy shed and face the bitterly cold wind, it was actually quite productive!

Wheelbarrowed a big heap of 3 year old allotment compost onto the undug parts of the patch. Will leave it two weeks, then did it in.

Picked up metal and plastic rubbish that I'm still turning up, even though I'm just starting my 4th year here.  Tidied the cold frame and weeded a path.

Collected pallets that I got via freecycle and me and the OH built a two-compartment compost bin for the new half plot. Took a bit of working out as not all pallets the same size.  :(
But they were free and in good condition. One of them is the blue type that is really robust and another is in great condition. As was standing back and admiring work (as OH was trundling back and forth with wheelbarrow loads of manure), fellow plot holder told me 'the committee dont like you using the blue pallets'. 'Well' says I, 'that would mean that there are about 30 other plot holders are in trouble then'.  :D  :D  :D

After almost filling one compartment with manure, and harvetsing a few leeks, came home one really happy gal.

I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

We were lucky to discover the council lopping bits off the nearby trees and shreding it when we went up to the chooks the other day _ got them to leave the wood chip behind! :)

So, I've dug over 3 beds and re-woodchipped all my paths.
It's supposed to snow down here again this week which is annoying as I had planting plans :(
