Freezing cold again, but more digging done,so was happy enough.  None of my allotment neighbours were around. My only company was a very noisy pair of partridges, which were calling to each other, while running amongst the plots.  Luckily for them, I already had dinner arranged.   :nowink:

Collected some wooden beams from our son & took them to the plot & put in the shed ready for getting a fire going to burn the weeds another day. Back home & out in the garden I Shredded the Christmas tree but didn't feel like trundling it back to the plot so it's in the greenhouse waiting for another day.

I FROZE

And it'll be getting chillier in the week.

A spot of digging in cold dry weather is lovely - warms you up a treat.

Built 2.4m X 4.8m raised bed and dug over ready for Asparagus to go in later.
Had hoped to add a load of manure but the pile from yesterday had already gone.  >:(
Finished paths between new gooseberry bushes and started to attack grass amongst the raspberries.

I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

still havent made it to the plot yet this year, but today I trimmed some overhanging branches off the neighbours tree (with permission and offered them the bits - but they were happy for me to take them to the tip)

I took the kitchen waste for the compost bin and then finished pruning the Autumn raspberries.
Still much too wet for digging :(

When I finally got into the lotty site (thought the lock had broken, so sent for reinforcements but it turns out it was just frozen ) I finally got the weed suppressant down on the paths on plot 2. Now ready for the bark chippings to be delivered.

I escaped for a whole hour and cycled to the plot late on Thursday afternoon.

I just had to get some leeks before the whole thing is plastered in snow....and I so needed a change of routine and scenery.

As it didn't feel that cold (2oC) I tried the spade in the ground and.... success. The top centimetre or two was a bit crunchy but underneath was fine so I did a bit of digging after I'd lifted the leeks. It was great! No one else about, peace and quiet and soon I was feeling relaxed and very warm (apart from my fingers).

I went to B&? to ask for some pallets (no joy) and came out with another packet of sweet peas that I have just sowed in the greenhouse into cardboard loo rolls. Noticed the rocket and thyme are doing a fab job, pinched out the sweetpeas that I sowed in October, and a ros cutting has survived and is growing. All in all a pleasant sit in the greenhouse and even though it's cold and snow here, it was strangely warm in there :-). I still have to some garlic in pots that I want to plant on the allotment - they might be my first thing to plant there :-).
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!
