Well done RJR! I took over my plot before Christmas and have also surprised a few people too! I've had a very warm welcome though even if they weren't expecting an over enthusiastic twenty something and her power drill  8) but my jungle of a plot is slowly coming back to civilisation and like u I can't seem to wait to get back every chance I can!

I cheated a bit today and got some chemicals on the couch grass, only did about 15m square as I wanted to keep most of the plot between myself and my organic neighbour.

Got rid of the last pile of rubbish that I had stacked up and lots of broken glass too.  Next job is to find/build a shed for the base I've built so I can stop carting all my muddy tools and welly boots back and forth  :)

Same job as me! I have a levelled area compacted down with sand etc ready for a shed.... Now to find one and persuade the fiancé to come down for long enough to help me build it (being 6'5 I think the height will be useful for doing the roof even if his DIY skills aren't all that!)

I have been looking round and think I have found the one I want.

On Sunday I went down to lift some leeks and came home with those and a few parsnips.

Managed a couple of hours digging until it began to grow dark. Drier than I had expected.

This is the one I have been looking at in a 6x4 size.

And I think I am stuck with the fiancé I've got now  ;)

I have the 8'x6' version. For the money they are ok. But you can tell they're a cheap shed. I'd definitely recommend paying the extra for a floor (something I didn't do).

Very easy to put together. I built mine alone in a few hours.

Went down on Saturday.  OH built a raised bed around the PT into which I am going to put Strawberries.  Looks good, will have to try find what I did with my camera so that I can post pictures.

The two raised beds that I had gotten ready last year are in good shape and not sodden as I thought they might be so I cleared out the last of the Parsnips, BS and Carrots from them - the soil is in great shape and what few weeds were there pulled easily.  They are now ready for planting up - will put some polythene on them later in the month to warm them up a bit.

The rest of the raised beds need some work on them but hopefully by the end of the spring I should have them sorted.

Feeling much happier now that I have gotten to spend some time on the plot - was suffering serious withdrawal symptoms.

Spent 3 hours this morning down on the plots.

On plot 1, weeded and raked 5 raised beds, laid cardboard, then weedsuppressant fabric and bark chippings on one of the paths. Still have one path to do but I've run of cardboard and chippings.

On plot 2 I planted 18 raspberry canes, 6 Polka, 6 Tadmor and  6 Cascade Delight and dug over an area 4x3 ft ready for the raised bed.

It's starting to look tidier.

Yesterday:-

I cleared the garden of rubbish, old dead minni greenhouse, old dead 10ft padling pool, old dead plants and accumulated old pots (etc etc)
Trimmed the foliage back on the pot growing strawberry plants and cleared the 4 hanging baskets ready for the toms and flowers to go in.

Hauled 2 more scaffolding planks up the hill to the plot. Made another raised bed. Transplanted some winter onions, don't know whether you can do that successfully, time will tell.

Yesterday I filled in the gaps in my onion/garlic rows with a few extras that were planted to one side and had started to shoot.  The gaps weren't just not growing - they were missing.  I blame the rats that live on the adjacent river (little beggars!).

Also tidied a little, removed some weeds, dug up a few midget parsnips.

I'm also wondering if I should remove the weed suppressant fabric I had down - I've not done so far as I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to lay it again (holes all over it from french beans, sweetcorn, etc being grown through it).  I am tempted by the idea of doing away with it altogether, giving the plot a good dig-over and then being able to grow in "traditional" rows, rather than areas covered in fabric and soil paths between.

Dug over part of new half plot and removed 4 more bags of nettles. The soil is very crumbly and have been told that the previous tenant ( whose father had the plot before him) looked after the soil well. I can testify to that. Easy to dig, given the rain we have had lately and not too many stones either.
Plan is to get as much dug and weeded (and covered) as I can before the winter gets going...... If it does this year?
