Rather than gardening, I'd call what I did today excavating.  I started to level a small hill at the back of the plot and have deduced that at one time in the ancient past this was a compost bin and storage area, lovely soil mind, once sieved.  Found half an ornament, a dog, possible goofy circa 1968 to 74  :)

The plot holder opposite gave me one of his three sheds!  How's that for kindness, so now looking for a small greenhouse to go where the shed would have gone.

Sowed parsnips, a bit late but hey it'll be fine.  What a lovely sunny day, got a red neck and arms.

Sunday - certainly was down here- glorious!!!

Set off late but I got to the plot and stayed for hours!

Woke "Howard" with one pull and my dad's little old orange rotovator purred into action bless it. More than 45 years old and it still does a wonderful job. All the big clumps of clay on the new 1/2 plot broken down and evenly raked ready for use. One half of the old plot is also up to scratch.

I even had time for a freshly brewed cuppa and a sandwich - now that is a record.

watered in the tunnel and GH, romanescu are poking their heads up along with the other cabbages . Sown lupin's, hollohock's, oriental poppie's , cosmos and a palm seed i picked up in portugal last year. Last bit of rough dug patch is still too wet to rotovate so spud's will have to wait for the weekend.

On the plot sowed mixed lettuce leaves, rocket and radish. Finally planted my brussel sprout seedlings. Had to water my seedlings as its very dry.
At home planted pansies and violas in the new area of the garden to give it some colour and planted up to hanging baskets.

Planted 8 shallots and 20 borlotti beans and fixed the shed roof down
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Spent another day at the plot in the sunshine.

Work continued on the new plot (38) - measuring out beds and laying out the central path.  Covered weed suppressant fabric in bark chips which had conveniently been delivered last week.

Started excavating the large pile of soil at the top of the plot - using it to level areas of the plot.

Dug out two gooseberry bushes which needed moving, planted Redlove apple and onions.

Not on the plot by I helped Mr S assemble the 2 new planters he has made me for the patio. I've planted the brown turkey fig in one & intend them for all edible plants as they are by the kitchen door. I'm thinking of salad leaves, radish, baby beetroot, small carrots.
Any other suggestions gratefully received. I've already got a herb bed on the opposite side.

Love the planters, they look solid!
