Popped down in the late afternoon sunshine to drop off the bagged horse manure that I bought earlier in the week.

Beautiful quiet half hour, perusing the beds and what I need to do for each of them before we go on holiday on 3rd April.

Came home well pleased, with a decent plan. Luckily I have plenty of fleece

Cleared some weeds from around fruit trees.
Sowed today:
Early peas "Twinkle" into cells.
Sweet peas (saved seed from fellow allotmenteer)
Red cabbage "Ivanov" swapped seeds.
Went home early cause the cold was getting to me. Warmed up with a cuppa!

Collected some cardboard from a freecycler and delivered them to the plot to start off the lasagne beds.

I then discovered there had been a delivery of bark chips, so the children and I barrowed some up to plot 37 ready to cover the paths.

I bought a soil thermometer today as a treat to myself(!)

Planted some onions. Setton and Red Baron.  The first thing I have put in since the winter onions went in.  It will be interesting to see if they survive, nothing I put in last year seemed to.
Dug a rain garden aka mud patch, transplanted to it some daisies which have flowered through flood, frost and snow so they seem as if they might be tough enough.

Today I dug over 2 more of my square beds and the whole of the lower half of plot which is open.
Also pruned my blueberries rather viciously but still plenty of buds ready to burst.

Absolutely pooped now. Aching all over! Worth doing though. :)

What did I do on the plot today? I stepped on it for the first time!

Quite exciting, my first one. Lots to do and also loads that I don't even know about yet. Will be some learning experience.

More weeding today around raspberries, mainly grass. The plot is looking good now, i think.........I think.... I'm ready, but I'm sure I'll find other stuff to do  ::)
Helped another allotmenteer Mick, to move some topsoil into his raised beds.
Sowed "banana" shallot seeds I've forgotten about. :)

I burnt a load of wood and tree branches .

I had made a brick pit for burning rubbish ,but cleared it out and used an old bin instead.

I am taking it down and making a large brick cold frame in its place instead  .

Had a bonfire in incinerator bin.
Sowed some broad beans. Can't for the life of me remember what they were called. "express" I think. So long as they grow!!    These were sown in toilet roll filled compost.
I have some paving slabs and blocks. I'll put these inbetween the 2 raised beds.

Dug over most of one of the council dug beds on the new plot. Got all the grass roots and bits of bramble that had been chopped in. Established that I have about 18 inches of top soil straight on the gravel bed underneath, so might raise the bed a bit.  Ill have to dig some exploratory holes elsewhere to see if its uniform across the plot.

Was pleased with the soil, nice and crumbly and pretty well drained, just a bit compacted and in need of some organic matter.

Also hooked (with permission) a massive pallet out of the school skip when I dropped Oli off this morning, so got some bed edging to start me off.

T'was a bitterly cold easterly wind blowing so I set about digging. Managed to turn over 16' x 14' bed. Then built up four compost bins out of rescued pallets.

Sandwich and a cuppa for lunch then wandered home.

More digging tomorrow while the dry weather holds and the night time frost will help to break down the clods of soil.
