Parsnips and Swedes are still OK. Sprouts a little on the small side tho'!
Battened down the hatches in readiness for Saturday's gales - don't want to be picking up the greenhouse from all over the site!! :nowink:

Made a big mistake spending the morning mending the brassica nets instead of continuing with the refurb of plot 3, as it is going to rain tomorrow so won't get much done.
However, there is always a silver lining, got a call from my manure contact and collected another truck load early afternoon. So bin on plot 2 and 3 now full to the brim and all beds sorted.
Whilst I was at the lottie, spread well rotted manure round currant bushes and  added shredded paper to non-manure compost bin on plot 2.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Yay!  Digging finished today, except where brassica's are still standing.  Had a good tidy up and ran the mower over to pick up leaves, just need a bit more muck to finish off the beds.
Optimism probably a gardeners best tool.

Dragged a reluctant whinging eight year old up the plot, and as usual an hour later struggled to persuade same eight year old that we really ought to go home now...

So, fave activity today was mining soil out of hedge bank for Mummy to throw onto the plot proper, whilst singing "I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hole: hole, hole, diggy diggy hole" and discovering various creepy crawlies and rodent tunnels.

Did not do much on my plot, but helped my son and his mate on their half plot. Delivered 7 2x2 paving slabs for them. They will be using them for a greenhouse base. ;)

Pruned back the autumn raspberries.   Took chopped up leaves from the garden and spread them over empty beds.  Harvested some kale and tatsoi and a swede.

Added some stuff to the communal compost bin, ours are full.

Checked the Wizard field beans.   A couple of seeds have rotted, but there seem plenty just poking through.
Garlic similar, with Music being the first of my 3 varieties to show.

Admired the new taller fence.   Had a wander to the bottom of the site to see the wildlife area under development.

Not a lot! The greenhouse was OK but then the gales never materialised (yet!!). Soil too wet to do anything with - except make mud pies but I'm a bit old for that!

My turn to help out at the trading hut today.  Sold a lot of bird seed and not much else. Got very cold feet and hands. ;)

Started the preparation for my fruit trees that I ordered yesterday, dug the holes for the 6 bare root trees and also made a raspberry bed for the canes that are also on order. You never know, I might have my plot looking like an allotment by the time spring gets here!!!  :)

Got half way through laying paving slabs between new shed and compost bins on plot 3. Rain came on and it got cold, so prepared the last bit easy for laying slabs tomorrow if no rain.

Cut down three rather straggly looking pine trees, which will allow more light on to my veg patch. Tidied the compost bin again!
