Cabbage worm?
« on: December 11, 2012, 22:26 »
Something has destroyed my brussel sprouts.  Eaten all the top foliage.  I've heard it could be cabbage worm or pigeons.  If pigeons, I'll put some netting up.  If cabbage worm, I've read to use bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) dust (Dipel) or Thuricide (liquid form).

But I can't find anywhere that sells it.  Is there any places in the UK you know of, or alternatives I can use.

Cheers

DiPel is licensed in the UK but only for professionals.

Thuricide is not licensed in the UK.

I don't know of amateur products which might work.  How sure are you of your diagnosis of cabbage worm?  Pigeons are far more likely in this country; I've never seen cabbage worm mentioned on here before.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

pigeons leave pointed nibbles out of the leaves, you can often tell that they've been there.

It has to be pigeons.

No way can I leave brassicas unnetted at any time of year, whether it be against butterflies or pigeons.

I had to look up cabbage worm as I also had not neard of them. It appears to ne an American term for caterpillars, which won't be your problem at this time of year.

In any case, (and I'm not toally organic), netting has to be the solution before reaching for unheard of chemicals!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
