Cabbage Kalibos - this looks lovely for salads and slaws  :)

They are great for all sorts of things but they do grow huge and take up lots of space. Don't grow too many - part packet job.  Experience speaks.

Thank you for the tip  ;)

Looking back at this time last year, I had 51 peppers, 4 assorted flowers, basil, parsley and loads of tomatoes popping up all over the place.  Two months later the dining table was covered along with five window sills and it cost me a fortune in tin foil   I was trying to grow as much as I could for my Dad's big party however.

I will be much more restrained this year.  ::)

Tray of The Kelsae onions and 6 peas so far!

I'm considering almost, maybe, that I may might start to possibly begin to think about a few brassica seed.

Perhaps.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Sorry if I have sparked seed envy in anyone, but if you are part of the Seed-aholic anon club, there isn't much hope I'm afraid  :nowink:

I agree with DD and LilacSandy that it is too early for growing much btw  ;)  I'm just at the planning and plotting stage - not much gone in yet except onions and sweet peas  :)

I'd be interested in knowing under what conditions this quantity of seed are being growing and what structure is in place for their aftercare.

I would not like newcomers to growing to run foul of "earlysowingitis" that we so often see, and then get discouraged when they get to appreciate how much after care and space is needed, as their offspring cannot yet face the great outdoors.

Yes, I've suffered from 'earlysowingitis' myself

Peppers and tomatoes are a struggle to keep going if you start too early for the facilities you have for aftercare.  I've learned to wait until the back half of February before sowing peppers and March for toms  ::)

Cougettes, melons and squash would be monsters if kept indoors for 4 months   They grow so fast, I wait until April before even thinking about sowing anything in that family :)

I'm sitting on my hands until next month and only have a few things to start then.  I'm curious about the 6 peas though.  Which 6  ???  :)

These six:

Thought I'd try a squeeze them in the greenhouse in the empty ground and see if they've time to make anything before the tomatoes take over.

Am likewise sitting on my hands. I've got broad beans I can't out out yet, that's enough.

I will probably start thinking about leeks and brassicas next month. And some of the herbs.

I thought I had done - and then when working out my planting plan I noticed I have not picked up Celery seeds !!!!

I've been looking for them in Wilkinsons and B&Q when I visited them for other things, but they don't appear to have any?

I may have to visit a garden centre, but if I do I just know I will not come out with just one pack of seeds...

Mrs Growster and I have to visit our garden centre tomorrow, to get some Charlotte and possibly one other early spud...

I'm dreading it as you have to walk past the seed displays, and also the onion sets, and my hands go all twitchy, and keep sort of reaching out and just touching them...

I may be OK if they have the Charlotte on the other side of the table, near the door, but I wouldn't bet on it!

I have moved the compost in the warm it up, ready for the weekend, when sowing here shall begin  :D

But only onions and sweetpeas, and ....oh yes - chillis  :D

My brassicas never made it as the compost had been moved outside and was frozen solid.

May pop some chillies in and start them in the bedroom.

Tomatoes, but only enough for the heated greenhouse will go in in about a week's time and the cucumbers and rest of the tomatoes in March. The rest of the cucurbits won't be started until April.
