so pleased with my plot and greatful to previous tenants who dug in barrow loads of manure into the clay i'm on top of a hill too and grow in beds with paths. Still have leeks, parsnips carrots beetroot and brassicas.

Not much you can do AnneB but wait and see what happens    Maybe you will get some brussel tops to eat at least.

Visited our site yesterday and we are on quite a steep slope so no danger of standing water, but the clay soil is sodden.  No chance of digging or even finishing the clearing at the moment.

I have leeks and brassicas which are coping, but the chard has bolted  :blink:  Not sure what's going on there, but have baby plants overwintering in the greenhouse to go out early spring so hey ho.

One brave plot holder has made a potato clamp on his plot - hope they will keep    You could literally wring the soil out
