Poo help/questions?
« on: November 18, 2012, 19:47 »
Hi all,

Hope your all well.

Few questions, our girls poo has started to change. I have attached a few pictures, just wondering if there is anything i should be concerned about?

I have had  a look at the pictures that have been put on here before, and don't really know which ones these match too?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Ben

Have you wormed them recently? :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Hello, no have not wormed them, the farmer had wormed them when we got them. How often should we worm them? And what with?

Thank you.

Hi there

Best to worm them with Flubenvet 1% which you can buy online. It is a chemical wormer and often recommended on this site.

I think the general advice as to how often is about twice a year. It does though depend e.g. on the number of hens you have and how large an area they have to roam around - the larger the area per hen you have should reduce the potential amount of worms they can pick up, at least in theory!

My hens are restricted to my back garden so I tend to worm them every 3-4 months or if I think they may be carrying them.

Inbetween wortming keep an eye out for potential infestations - runny poos can be sign and if there is a heavy burdon you can sometimes see them in the droppings.

Hope this helps
Helen

Hi there

You can get it from online pharmacy suppliers. I just did a quick search now and found the following firm (though I haven't used them):

http://www.animalmedicationdirect.co.uk/flubenvet-1-small-flock-poultry-wormer-60g-pr-5789.html

I think you can also get them via Amazon.

You can also get layers pellets that contain Flubenvet though this may only be economical if you have a largish flock. The firm that do them is Marriages:

Hope this helps.
