If you've already dug the soil (or don't intend to dig it anyway) then you can just spread it on top now and leave it - with any luck much of it will get taken into the soil by worms so by next spring it will only need a light forking to incorporate it all properly.

Usual advice is to avoid manuring areas where you will next be growing root crops, although there have been occasional dissenting voices about that on these forums!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Leave a load to one side and spread it in the trenches you've dug for spuds at the time of planting.

Cheers,   Tony.

Take the simple approach:
Cows would wander round and do what cows do all the year round on the ground.

If you have it now then you may as well dig it in or at least rack it on to the plot now.

makes two of us or probably everyone i dont think you can get too many bits of advice ,my plot was unused for many years before i took it over ,had it approx 16mths now the first real twelve months been just sortin beds and weeding summer this year id done quite large bed id say approx 100sqft i got as much weed and roots out then covered with as much manure as poss to at least 4inch left it to do its buisness for about 3mths then covered for month ish when i uncovered i forked through the bed and the soil looks great so my advice is cover we as much manure as poss and leave for worms to do the hard work.
