Is this a symptom of moulting or is she sick?
« on: November 04, 2012, 14:43 »
Hi, I have 2 chickens who are moulting but also doingvery liquid  poo's (clear watery liquid with some solids in) ...is this usual during a moult?
I took one girl to the vet last week and he discovered a flesh egg which he removed and gave antibiotics. Although she's perky, he's diagnosed her with hardened intestines due to a previous infection and it's probably terminal..we're keeping an eye on her and will take her for her final vets visit when she seems to be suffering which she's not at the moment.  My problem is that my second chicken is displaying similar symptoms...full moult, reduced appeitite, hunched, sleepy and watery poo.
Does anyone else recognise these symptoms?

I believe Vermex is a herbal remedy which possibly does not work.  Best to use flubenvet either added to their food or you can get layers pellets with it already added.  There has been a problem getting supplies but I have just searched online and found this site that appears to have the pellets in 10kg and 20kg bags.

www.sprcentre.com/Marriages-Poultry-Feeds

Our local Farmway store also had pellet supplies - you can order some from Farmway in Stokesley it is £14 plus £4.95 postage for a 25 kg sack.  This would be enough to treat 20 - 25 chickens for 7 days.  There telephone number is 01642 717600 .
