first eggs
« on: October 09, 2012, 20:25 »
Hi All,

Just a quick question. Our twenty week old Warren ISA hens have laid their first egg (just one of the hens, not all three yet). Is it ok to eat the early eggs? I've heard somewhere that the first eggs shouldn't be eaten, is that true, can there be anything different about the first eggs, surely they'd all be the same?

I'm quite surprised, these are our first hens and we've got our first egg! Yippee!

Thanks

Its very hard to eat your girls first egg.  You want to frame it and show it to everyone.  But they are small perfectly formed lovely tasting eggs.  Enjoy.

Congratulations on getting your first egg. It's a pretty exciting moment isn't it. What will you do with the egg? fry it? poach it? or make some fairy cakes?

Thanks everyone or your answer, I'm glad we can eat our hens first egg!

Guess what! Not only did we have our first egg on Monday morning but we found another today! Eggcellent!

As they're coming thick and fast, whats the best way to store them and whats their "shelf life"?
