the old guys on the allotments tell me my potatoes have got sprang,never heard of it,anyone got an explanation ???

Expect they mean "spraing" - lots of info if you Gurgle it and you will be able to make up your own mind whether they are right or not.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Mid brown to dark brown shading within the potato.  We eat the spuds affected, and we're still here.  Looks worse than it is.
