What is going on with Diana!
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:58 »
Diana, is a copper maran, about two years old. She is one of four, all different hybrids. She looks healthy... bright eyes, red comb, regularly wormed, de loused. However for the last couple of months she has laid about 1 egg a week, is this it for her??. The 1 that she does lay is quite large (but she always laid on the larger side), It always has a couple of blood spots and the first white is almost, but not quite opaque, rather than clear if that makes sense!
She goes through the motions most days, goes into the nest box, tidies the nest a bit ... sits there for 10 minutes then gets up and carries on with her day. She has not had a moult ( but neither has the same aged coral). Has she really come to the end of productive laying?

actually... strike the last comment... she doesn't have a pendulous abdomen... but she does have a big lump on her chest.. usually to the left of centre.. I assumed that this was just a full crop. I have squished it in the past... it was squish-able.
She has few feathers on her chest.. but not really visible as the side feathers kind of curl and cover the bare bit. The lump and chest bone are red... again I'd assumed that this was from dust bathing.
I figured she couldn't be really poorly as still eating and looks bright.
Poor thing.. what have i missed?
