I'm not familiar with this software, but isn't there an option to make it even smaller?  It needs to be 100 Kb or less for a straight attach from your computer. You could just upload to photobucket which will do it all for you and all you have to do is post the link. :)

I'm assuming you are not  on an iPad as these instructions will not work.

It should be ok as the FAQ section says it needs to be 128kb or less.

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=19476.0

I have an option on my email that asks whether I want the photo made smaller so I normally email the photo I want to use to myself, make it smaller, save it, then post it on the thread.

I think that may depend on whether 1 Kb is counted as 1000 bytes or 1028 bytes. ::) Don't worry if you don't understand that ::), in my experience when I resize pictures for attachment in Picasa (the software I use) it has to be 100 Kb or less. :)

I'm just trying to emphasise that regardless of the instructions saying 128 Kb, this figure might be too big depending on how your software reads and reports these figures to you. :) And that perhaps, as a layperson the OP could try a smaller file size.

What do you suggest Lardman, are you familiar with the software the OP is struggling with?

I wasn't but having removed my head from my bottom I am now  :D

Im guessing the OP is reading the actual file size rather than the file size on the disk.

In window if you right click the file and select properties you will see both sizes are shown, because of the way filesystems store the data the "size on disk" is the important one.  Again im guessing but Id say the file size is below the 128KB (116KB) but the size on disk is just over the limit.

Even the size on disk is still smaller than the 128kb: actual details say:

112kb (118,000 bytes)
Size on disk 116kb (118,000 bytes)

Maybe I will try photbucket.

Maybe I will try photbucket.

How very odd.  If you're trying 640x try knocking the size down to 500x instead.

You could try another resize application I've used this one http://www.fotosizer.com/ in the past.

I've also noticed that once you've failed the upload limit once, you can't resubmit the message even if you have reduced the file (Im guessing that's a bug in the forum).

Im guessing the OP is reading the actual file size rather than the file size on the disk.

So you agree with me.  :nowink: Sheesh! ::)

frenchliving, I'd try photobucket. :D

Nope - and the size on disks vs 'size' is due to clusters on the FS not bits in a byte, but its Friday so I'll let you off  ;)

Well you do actually, but we're not going to get in a debate about semantics here, are we? ;)

I hope frenchliving has some ideas to be going on with! :D

I got a headache just reading this thread!
Here's how I do it. Save your photo from the camera as you would normally. Click on it to open it then click on the icon at the bottom of the photo that opens it for editing. At the top of the screen click on "image" and where it says skew/stretch reduce the size from 100% to about 35% then save it, when you save it rename it so you don't confuse it with the original. Then when you do a post on the forum click on the "additions" and "browse" until you find your new photo. it will appear small on the page until someone clicks on it then it will enlarge. Hope this helps.

I've got headache too!
I do same as Magicaltoad. Edit my original and save. The save process allows me to make a smaller one which I save with a different name. Then browse to upload smaller pic.  No pressure then Frenchliving. We are waiting for THE PHOTOS   :)  ;)
