Overwintering Calabrese
« on: August 09, 2012, 15:26 »
Has anyone had any success overwintering calabrese? I'm specifically looking at the Aquiles F1 variety which claims it can be sown in September and harvested in May.

Thanks,
Paul.

We had some over last winter.  I cannot remember where we 'aquired' them from.

They ended up looking like the picture on a packet of "Walking Stick cabbages"!  They were huge.  The electrician who came to service the substation were very impressed.

They need serious staking to stop rocking during the winter weather.  Only trouble is, once the first flush of heads had gone they seemed to go downhill quite quickly.

I'd give it a go again, but double stake.     Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I'll give them a go and see what happens.
Thank you for the reply Tony.
