Freezing tomatoes - more info requested

maybe I will get some toms and cougettes and beans eventually. living mainly off spinach onions and frozen toms and lettuce. Carrots nearly there too though.

You can freeze toms? Didn't know this, what's the taste like?

Yes, I just pop them in a freezer bag as they are.  Great for frying or making into pasta or tomato sauce or soup.

Much nicer than tinned :)

I skin mine by putting them into a big bowl and covering them with boiling water for a few minutes then slit the skins with a sharp knife and then the skins just slip off.

I quarter mine and put them in small quantities in freezer bags.

you can also make up cauldrons full of tomato sauce for pizza topping or as a base for spag bol or casserole base.

If you're pressed for time you can simply freeze whole or halved tomatoes, and when thawed the skins slip off by themselves and you can chop the toms up as desired.

No good for salads or anything like that once defrosted, but I just chop my extra toms up, skins and all and freeze them in 1lb bags.

They take up less room than whole ones and once blitzed into pasta sauces or soups, you can't distinguish the skins.

I usually roast mine with garlic then add to some slow fried onions , courgettes and basil and then freeze so I have ready made pasta sauce.

Will definately do some thrown into a bag when I don't have time to do the sauce.
