has anyone ever had Rhubarb with rusty brown patches on the stems ? The plant is healthy but I was wondering if this would affect the taste ?

This starts to happen at this time of year, I had the last picking off mine yesterday and noticed it had started, so didn't pick the effected stems.
I'll leave it now, to build itself up for next year

I bought it from a table top sale earlier this spring so perhaps it is a good idea to leave it like you say. They have grown somewhat though in a large terracotta pot sunken in the border and mulched. I made the mistake of putting the last one that died in the shade part of the garden which got waterlogged.
