Mother nature not playing fair.
« on: June 25, 2012, 15:04 »
It seems my quest to find something to grow without the need to constantly mollycoddle it has been thwarted again.

Guess what my asparagus is covered in

You'd think she'd cut me some slack now and then wouldn't you ?  ::)

Not sure if I shall go a squishing later or if it's better to just nuke them.

That's it  >:(  I'm definitely not moving to Worcestershire!  ;)

You seem to be having a terrible year of it, Lardman.  My sympathies... :(

Still, as they say in showbiz, "Gotta keep the show on the road", so don't give up, just buy some flippers....and join the synchronised swimming team... or maybe we should devise a new olympic sport of "bug-squishing". :tongue2:

We have a monster in our greenhouse that takes huge bites out of stems and leaves large bits of leaves around. It leaves a slimy trail but we can't find it. I have never seen a slug with such a huge appetite before.

I did start to squish but its almost impossible to get everywhere. I resorted to chemical warfare.

Where were the eggs - how big are they? Im guessing the spray wouldn't harm them  >:( picking over 6ft ferns is just no fun.

I've been waging war with mother nature every year since I moved here, so far it's Mother Nature : 5 - Lardy : 0. I'll keep at it until she gets bored  :D

I'll let you know when it has eaten everything and there is nowhere to hide.

Snap! Our's has eaten all my melon plants bar one, and it is probably too late for that one to get going! >:( I've let the chooks in several times to try to get rid of the blighters, taken all trays out and turned them upsidedown so any little babies can be got at.....and still there are slime trails (and scuffed up pots ::))
