we had our first home-grown Charlottes of the season last night. A bit on the small side but they were only planted 10 weeks ago so I'm being impatient.

They were lovely tho  :)

My Pentland Javelin 1st Earlies have been in the ground now for 13 weeks.

I dug a root up yesterday and there was just about enough for a small meal for one person.

Last season my 1st Earlies were a good size by 13 weeks.

Aprils constant rain followed by the cold we had for most of May has set everything back by about 14 days
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

I never water spuds out on the plot. It's just too hard work, so never bother.

It's too early for writing off your spuds.  Leave them be and let them grow on. I found some Charlottes once in November and they were in fine fettle. They were on the last row by the hedge, which grew over them so I'd forgotten about them. Once the hedge had lost its foliage, as had the spuds by this time, I was working there, fluffing the soil up and found them.

Mine are awful :(

Every one of my Foremost rotted in the ground and 60% of the Rocket also. But Rocket in a big barrel in the greenhouse are really good.

I'm digging volunteers from last year and the crop is better than nothing but not good and they are full of slugs :(

Its a bad year all round for me in the veg growing dept. nothing outside is growing well, its all looks yellow, weak and small. :( Toms and peppers in the greenhouse look fine , so far ::)

I dug one Lady Christl on the 7th and the crop was poor, today the yield is good - the extra 2 weeks have made a lot of difference  :)

Thanks mumofstig.... gives us hope. I couldn't be doing with contemplating a complete disaster in the potato patch.

I've decided to have a little furtle when I next visit... just one plant, the 1st in the 1st row so it'll be "rocket". Flowers have been there for a while and..... I'm just hoping the slugs are slithering around on the grass mulch I plastered over the top rather than gnawing their way downwards.

Normally the mulch works well......but maybe not the best idea this year. We'll see.

mine arent very good either because of the cold weather but as with every year they only have to last a month til the 2nd earlies come in, so come june 1st we start eating them regardless.
