First time I've grown kale this year, I'm doing both nero and dwarf green curly. The curly kale in particular is growing like mad, and I'm just wondering how big they need to get before I can start pulling leaves. I don't want to start too soon so I weaken the plants, but keen to start eating it because it looks lush.

If its looking lush, I'd start to take the odd or some leaves just like you would with leafy crops like chards and leaf beets.

Funny thing is the slugs have made a beeline for my nero kale but have completely ignored the green curly.

Well I'll never know if they don't stop eating it

Oh dear! We're not growing it this year but we've used deep copper rings around the stems in the past to good effect at stopping the slugs.

My curly kale is growing like mad and needed thinning out a bit today so for my first ever harvest on my new plot I picked a couple of leaves from each.

Brought it home and stirfry'ed it in some butter and salt. Yum!
