Passed soft shelled egg
« on: June 03, 2012, 20:59 »
Good evening folks,

One of my hens (2yr old Light Sussex) was a little out of sorts today. She laid this morning as usual and although she's been eating & drinking today has been a bit hunched up and I noticed she had a dirty bum and loose poo's.
She took herself off to bed way before the other two (unusual) so I checked in the coop and she had passed a shell-less egg. There was no shell to be seen and she was busy pecking through the membrane and eating the evidence (so I can't be sure if it was passed complete).
I've brought her in, given her a warm bath for 20mins, towel dried her (the hairdryer freaked her out) and she is now in a cat basket in the warm bathroom.
I did have a little feel around whist bathing her...no shell felt and she did not pass anything else.
She's had a small handfull of corn without hesitation and seems perky enough now.
I'm planning on putting her in the run in the morning just before I let the others out.
Is there anything I should be doing?

Thanks in advance!

no just put her back in the coop with the others  :)
Do they have access to crushed oyster shell?
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi,

She went back with the others this morning. She's drinking and pecking around and looks perky enough.
Yes they have access to oyster shell and grit and I give a small amount of greens daily. I'm hoping this was just a blip but will keep a close eye on her today .
Thanks.
