new plot
« on: May 29, 2012, 23:52 »
we have just taken over our second plot and as always is very overgrown the plan is to > spray with glyphosate and wait for weeds to die, then bring in digger. But my question is if i scrape the top layer of soil with the weeds/grass in then another layer of soil>put back the first load  and bury over with the soil, will it just grow back through or will i need to take the weed pile away

If you spray and wait for the glyphosate to work through and kill the weeds, you should be OK.

There might be the odd perennial weed that survives and needs a second spray, but if I understand your post, you are effectively double digging by machine, so those weeds will also be buried as well   :)

I would investigate the depth of your topsoil before using a digger to remove the top layer.

It is possible that your top soil is only thin, and you don't want to bring the subsoil to the surface above the buried topsoil.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

would it be better to just  strim when the weeds have died, then rotavate and spray again?
