I have sown 8 climbing Borlotti beans (Lingua di Fuoco).  They have all come up, but weirdly 2 of them have grown upside down with their roots waving in the air and the growing point burrowing underground.

I have now righted them and they seem none the worse for their experience, although they are a tiny bit behing in height compared with their siblings.  I have grown beans many times over a number of years and have never experienced this before, and I always put the seeds in the compost "on edge".

Has anyone else seen this on this variety or other beans?

I had the exact same thing with one of my climbing french beans last week - but I'd sown the seed upside down! (In fact, all the others that I'd also planted upside down, somehow righted themselves and are growing away nicely now).

It does happen on beans every now and then.  They are supposed to know which way is up and which down, but I guess some are just a bit dim 

I have had a few this year, but have just righted them as you did.  They seem to be catching up with the others now 

I just chuck beans seeds in and they usually find their way up on their own
