my neighbour called me over the fence and showed me the uglyest egg ive ever seen, it was completely mis-shapen not at all egg like, and covered in a sort of chalk, which i assume is calcium ? i started to peel the chalk away and about 4mm in there was a perfectly normal egg.  apparently this isnt the first time she has had an egg like this.  any ideas why this is happening and what she can do about it. i did take photos but cant work out how to post them on here  thanks  all x

I wouldnt be too worried. We've never had an egg in an egg, but we've had several strange shapes, wrinkled shells, long narrow eggs and double yokers. These are the eggs that dont make it to the shops and would be used in commercial processes instead as they are not aesthetically pleasing.

Could be taking longer to come through the system. Has she got enough water and is she taking a long time to lay or very noisy?

im not sure how long she is taking to lay as she is my neighbours chicken, she has water all the time, she just told me that all her 5 hens had a cold so the vet gave her tylan (sp?) could that have anything to do with it ? also she has two amber stars that have just reached laying age, so could it be one of them that havent quite got the hang of regular laying ? thanks for your help, she really is a worrier, so id just like to put her mind at rest.
