Watering carrots in baking weather
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:11 »
It's been really hot the last few days and I didn't water the carrots yesterday. Or to be more exact, water the weeds, I can't see any carrots yet.

I'll be watering today but just wondering if it's so bad that I haven't done so considering how baking it has been.

Just a thought, zesty, if your carrots haven't germinated yet then you can keep the top of the soil moist in this baking weather by dressing it with a light covering of grass and twigs.

The partial shade will mean you don't have to keep watering and that you're holding onto enough water in the soil to promote germinate.

Might be worth a try along part of a row as an experiment to see if you get better/quicker/easier germination?
