Too late for squash?
« on: May 21, 2012, 19:17 »
I've just lost the second Harlequin plant to stem rot. I have been watering from beneath as well, but I guess it was just a bit too wet for them. The Crown Prince and Uchiki Kuri are fine, but it's the first time I've tried Harlequin and they just don't seem quite as robust.

Think it's too late to sow a couple more?

No - I've just resown some of mine  ::) Try to give them a bit more warmth for a quick start, if you can :)

I had to re-sow my butternuts, the resown ones are just coming through.

So are the first lot I sowed on April 19th.  >:(

What do I do with potentially 48 BNS plants?!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I went to replant my  BNS at the weekend which had been in the unheated greenhouse (I forgot to bring them indoors) and then when I poked around in the soil found they had sprouted.  They are now 2"  tall  so I'm going to leave them where they are.  They are obviously 'sorting' themselves out.

Yep, they've got the prime spot next to the boiler :)

I'm tempted to restart a couple of my courgettes too. They're all fine, but because they've been delayed a bit in going out, getting hoiked in and out of the house every day, they've just got a bit battered and tatty looking and that's not the best of starts.

I do like Uchiki Kuri, they're so indestructible, one of the plants that really really wants to live :)

I always plant half my summer squash/courgettes in March and half in May, to extend the season.  I have just taken over another plot, so will pop some in this week to fill the new beds on there too!
