egg bound question
« on: May 15, 2012, 18:52 »
Hi my Morella who 6 weeks ago had a broken egg stuck inside her, was on anti-biotics got better started putting on weight etc, suddenly went down hill about a week ago with what I think is kidney probs drinking loads not pooping but water coming out, she hasn't laid since her first probs and I now think there is an egg stuck I can feel it underneath her, so my question is how deep should the bath be, should it cover the vent or below it and how warm?Or any other ideas welcome she has been through enough  :(

Here's a link about the problem, in a recent post the vet gave an egg bound chickem
an injection of oxytocin to stimulate expulsion.

Hi thanks for that, yes she was given 2 injections of that kind when she had the broken egg as it wouldn't come out then turned to peritonitus, so I am reluctant to go through that again with her and hoping a warm bath will get her going.

I usually make the bath deep enough to cover the vent.

I find a mop bucket a perfect size and shape for a hen bath ;)
