sitting on nest
« on: May 09, 2012, 15:03 »
One of our orpington hens has started sitting on the nest constantly, but with no eggs under her.

She started this yesterday afternoon.  She will get up for food and she doesn't appear ill.  She will let you pick her up, but gets angry if I start looking her over.  She is in her 2nd year

Broody?  egg Bound?

Any advice?

Broody. If you do not want to put fertile eggs under her, someone recomends ice block wrapped in a towel under her. She will not lay whilst broody and will take some time to go back to laying.
