Brussels mullered
« on: April 30, 2012, 20:36 »
Hi all
I planted 36 brussel plants on Saturday, now about 10 of them have been destroyed, is this likely to have been birds or slugs?

Gits!

might be birds if they not been netted, haven't seen any slugs about at this time of year. i haven't seen any brassica damage on mine from slugs but they are netted from birds

Plenty of slugs about. I put down a couple of beer traps last week and got 5 slugs in one night.
I also found a snail with its shell caved in. I think the slugs may have had a drunken brawl with the snails in the small hours.

I lost a sprout on the weekend, the stem had been chewed and the plant collapsed. Was slug damage for sure. I use Growing Success organic pellets and they work well.

That's what I thought when one of our cabbages wilted this week - found the culprit - cut worm tucked up 4 inches beneath the surface.  Plenty slug activity here too.
