My plot is in a field and I have rabbits, hares, moles, foxes, lots of birds and zillions of mice/voles/ etc.

I had been planning to plant some strawberries, put some chicken wire fencing round the bed and put bird neeting over when the strawberries are ripe, but now I'm wondering if the mice will get them before I do?

What do you think?

We live adjacent to a field so have most of those pitfalls. We don't grow strawberries any more, but when we did the chickens would jump up and get them first from the tall planter they were in. We moved them into the fenced and gated veg plot and then the slugs used to get them first.

If you do them in 3' wide beds you can protect with 4' bird wire which has small holes about 1/2" diameter.
