Potatoes
« on: April 22, 2012, 20:43 »
I've put in some first earlies and some salad potatoes. 1st ones came through today (yippee)

The weather is keeping me from planting more at the minute, will it ever stop raining?

I've got some more 1st early and salad varieties to go in.

Then some 2nd earlies.

Then some main crop.

What is the latest they can go in? can they go in whilst the grounds wet?

Don't tread on wet ground, you'll ruin the soil structure.

Last two years my lates have gone in in May and I've had excellent crops.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Just had a peep at my Maris Bards. One hasn't shown at all, so I thought I'd investigate. The spud is still there, looks healthy as a butchers dog, but the chits have disappeared. I don't think they've been nibbled. Could it be down to the aquatic nature of the bed they are in?
