Net tunnel and broccoli
« on: April 23, 2012, 11:27 »
I am looking at buying my first net tunnel and I have seen one on the web which is 30 cm high. Someone has posted a review saying that the tunnel is not high enough for broccoli. How tall does broccoli grow?

About 3 times that-so i'd agree!
Political Correctness-a concept based on the idea that its possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Might be OK for carrots & that's about it!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I don’t know what to do now. It seems that it’s not such a good buy after all. Can I grow broccoli without a net?

I wouldn't even think about it.

You may be OK, but one sight of them and our pigeons would have them away.

Then there's the cabbage white butterflies as well!

But the tunnel net will be ok for cabbages and cauliflower?

It's stretching it.

My cabbage and caulis will grow a bit taller than that. How wide it it? If the same width, I'll say it's certainly too small. I grow my plants 45cm apart and they will grow that far across as the leaves will touch each other.

Do you have a link to it?

That's actually taller than you said, nevertheless I think it's still pushing it for brassicas, it's more suited for salad crops, as shown in the illustration.

The problem is that if brassica leaves touch the netting, the butterflies can still lay eggs through it.

Debris netting, supported by lengths of wood, height according to the crop.

For not an awful lot more money or even some swapping on the plots you might get some water pipe and debris netting. There is lots behind sheds that people are not using im sure if you asked they would give you a few hoops.
Thanks
Kris
